North Texas Korean-American senior citizens celebrated their ‘DFW Senior Gathering Day’ in conjunction with the ‘World Senior Citizen Day of 2018’ which was held by the Grace Adult Day Care Center on October 25th.
The DFW Senior Gathering Day was launched in a grand scale level. There were two main sponsors that helped this event, the Grace Adult Day Care Center (Chairwoman: Sun Young Lee) and ‘NamuHope Foundation’ (President: Ha Woon Jang).
This event was also co-sponsored by Korean Society of Dallas (President: Suk Chan Yu), the hosting took a place at the Mar Thoma Church of Dallas at Luna Road.
The DFW Senior Gathering Day celebration included all the senior citizen members of Grace Adult Day Care Center and other Korean-American seniors from North Texas. In addition, there were over 300 family members and volunteers participated in this event to show support for the ‘World Senior Citizen Day’ and cheered for the ‘Happy Retirement’ for the seniors.
The event was kicked off with stretching exercise followed by an essay presentation done by senior citizen members from Grace Adult Day Care Center. There were also singing and dancing performance carried out by the Korean Cultural Art Group that enhanced the event atmosphere.
There were several singing and dancing concert performance including ‘Han Yang Mu’ dance by artist Jung Sook Kim, and a song by a violinist, Yoon Kyong Park, and the joint performance by Choirs of Grace Harmony and Grace Music Orchestra. At the end of the performance, Mr. Dae Yong Jung, a member of Grace Adult Day Care Center, performed a poem recital.
While the music performance was going on, members participated in taking self-portrait photos, and health screening as well as senior citizen benefit counseling. On the other side of the room, Grace Adult Day Care Center members showed off their decorating handicraft work.
The event organizers gave a special recognition to seniors above 90 years old. The president of ‘NamuHope Foundation’, Ha Woon Jang and the chairwoman of ‘Grace Adult Day Care Center’ Sun Young Lee presented a carnation flower to each of 90 years old and above seniors and wished them a continual ‘disease free longevity’.
During the opening ceremony of the event, the president of Korean Society of Dallas, Suk Chan Yu and vice president, Myung Hee Park greeted the seniors with a congratulatory message and wished for their happiness.
“Today’s event is for all the Korean seniors, not just for the members of Grace Adult Day Care Center. I will continue to work to bring happiness to Korean-American senior citizens of the North Texas” Ha Woon Jang said during the welcoming speech.
The lunch was served after the 1st half of the performance. The participants were filled with laughter and entertainments in 2nd half of the event as well.
